Teeth implants are the most impressive of all dental innovations. In anticipation of their invention, there was no simple way to replace a tooth. Dental tooth implants look, feel and function like a real tooth. Because they are so excellent, many clients with dental implants forget they are there.

When a client comes in for a check up after having major dental work done, the dentist desires to know “how’s that tooth feeling?”

The answer: What crown? What bridge? What implant? Is music to your dentist’s ears. Why? Because it implies that the work you had done feels and looks so excellent, you forgot it was there….sweet success:)

Because teeth implants are amazingly successful and loved by clients, that sought after response is heard for dental implants more than any other major dental work.

What are Teeth Implants?

Teeth implants replace the entire tooth, root and all. This procedure is done in stages and most often involves a periodontist or oral surgeon and your dentist. Most dental implants take four to six months from start to end.

When the healing is complete, your dentist takes it from there adding a crown, the visible part of your tooth.

It takes more time and money to have an implant placed. From what I see and hear, it’s worth it.

A Work in Progress…

Dental implants feel and look like real teeth because of their design.

This picture is not very pretty, but I like it because it shows the reason implants are so successful…they have a solid foundation.

When the crowns are attached to these implants, they will be gorgeous:)

Don’t worry, only your dentist ever sees you from this angle. While your bone is healing, you will have some type of fleeting tooth or teeth to hide any gaps in your smile.

Healthy teeth improve the quality of our lives.

  • Proper tooth function keeps us healthy because we can eat nutritious food.
  • Gorgeous teeth give us confidence and style.

Teeth that don’t feel excellent, work well, or look nice can really drag you down. Dental implants are a fantastic solution to many cosmetic and functional tooth problems.

To fully appreciate teeth implants, it’s vital to equate them to grown-up ways of replacing teeth.

Implants vs Dentures

picture of denture Partial or full dentures are inconvenient and can be uncomfortable. They may look as excellent as real teeth but never work as well. "You can’t beat the original equipment" is something I like to remind my clients of when they get tired of taking care of their teeth and wish they could just get dentures.

It’s right, dentures don’t get cavities or gum disease, and you don’t have to floss them…but, they come with a whole other set of issues.

Some teeth eventually have to be replaced, and when that time comes implants are better than partial or full dentures.

Implants vs Bridges

A bridge is the traditional way of replacing one, two, or three teeth and is still a fantastic choice for some. Bridges are surprisingly more invasive than implants because they require the surrounding teeth to be drilled and used as anchor teeth. This adds stress to those anchor teeth and over time may compromise their strength. A dental implant is a better choice whenever possible.

Tooth Implant Cost

The cost is often a deal breaker. Unfortunately, this small tooth miracle is pricey and not usually covered well by dental insurance. Prices vary, but one dental implant can cost around $3000 from start to end.

Takes Longer

Time is another limiting factor. While bridges are not as nice as implants, a bridge can be finished in 2-3 weeks. Some clients would rather not wait for an implant.

Teeth Implant Problems

A small percentage of implants fail for a variety of reasons. But, if they are placed everywhere there is enough bone to support them and well maintained by the patient, they have a very excellent chance of lasting a lifetime.
